After you contact us, and we’ve chatted about what kind of website you want, we’ll begin. Here’s how we work:

step 1. getting to know you

we: Ask a series of questions to better understand your needs. We’ll also ask you to create a visual mood board that reflects your personal style.

you: Create your mood board by gathering images and objects that reflect the aesthetic style you’d like for your website.  Include anything you like — postcards, artwork, things torn out of magazines, gum packaging, fashion from a certain time period, typefaces, photos, a kid’s drawing, slogan T-shirts from the 70s, whatever. These things become the visual starting place for your site design. You should choose pieces that have the kind of “feel” you want to project, whether that’s playful, sophisticated, energetic, or quiet.

together: We’ll review your mood board and talk about some logistics, like website hosting options.

step 2. exploring your style

we: Create two or more design concepts for the look and feel of your website. If you like, we can show you how the same design can be applied to business cards and stationery, postcards, and other promotional items. Together these items can become your visual identity, a sort of graphic calling card.

you: Choose one of the design concepts.

together: We’ll discuss any refinements you’d like to make to the design.

step 3. creating your website

we: Help you select a hosting service and platform for your website. Then we build the pages using the graphic design concept you’ve chosen.

you: Decide whether you’d like us to add content to the pages, or whether you’d like to do that yourself.

together: We’ll review the tools that power your website. That way, you’ll see how to update and maintain the pages and content. If you’d like help keeping your site current, we can assist.

time to launch

At this point, your new website is ready to launch. Once it’s live, you can point readers, agents, publishers, and the media to your online home. Your site can include biographic information, an overview of your work, press clippings, event calendars, a blog, RSS feeds, and more. Use it to connect with readers and promote your work.
